First Hand Earthquake Experience

Monday December 3, 2012 4:42pm Alaska Time
I was standing in my boss’s office answering questions regarding billing from months ago and I remember hearing the building making a slight squeaking noise before my boss stops the current conversation and says to me “5.2 earthquake ready?” and before I could clarify what he had just said the ground under my feet started moving. I have heard people describing how it shakes but this felt more like a swaying motion. This was not my first earthquake to experience but the strongest. The first was a 4.6 I believe and that did shake. This larger one however was the most adrenaline pumping experience because in the middle of it I had no idea how long it was going to last, if it was going to get stronger, or what would happen to things around me as they also shook. I felt like I was riding a mechanical bull and had to move with the motion of the earth or else I was sure to lose my footing. It did not last long, although it felt like a few minutes it only lasted a few seconds. When it was done I look at my boss with a face that must have said “how did you know?” and he jokingly said I am an earthquake whisperer. I had found out later from others who have lived in the state a while that you can hear it coming. Not sure if that is true and I am not sure if that is what I heard when the building was squeaking right before.
A fun story and an interesting experience to share.

On another note I leave for Idaho vaycay Sunday 1am. To see my dad retire from the air force. So proud!

This next month in a nutshell

At this point I am starting to think that boot camp and tech school will be a vacation. It has been so crazy between preparing to leave, working my full time job, and trying so hard to dedicate enough time to my Avon business.
The weekends are normally my time to regroup, clean the house, have some me time, and take care of my Avon stuff. But I do not think I will have a weekend again before I leave. Last weekend I worked at my full time job to make up a day that I will be gone for vacation in December, this weekend is drill (my last drill), next weekend I work to make up another day of vacation and that Sunday leave for vacation, then I am down in Idaho for my dad’s retirement for a week and when I return I have 3 weeks left to make sure everything is in order to go.
Bills are my main concern. Some I have to log on and pay online, some are transfers, some are automatic, and some are checks…. It seems like its chaotic and everywhere! I have taken a calendar and wrote down everything on it on the dates they are due and how to pay or if it is automatic. It’s not like Zeke doesn’t know how to pay them I just have things set up certain ways through my account and I just want to make sure I make it somewhat easy to handle. He will be going to school while I’m gone and keeping his full time job so the less complicated everything else is the better.
Then there is the issue of a POA. I don’t even know how that works or how to get one. I love my husband to death but there are some things I do not want him to be able to do as my POA and I have no idea how that works or if it can be regulated. Last thing I want to come home to is a sports car and a snow machine lol!
I will receive my “official” orders on the 19th during my out-processing brief. During this brief I will learn everything short of an address of where family and others to send mail. Just so that everyone knows I cannot broadcast on Facebook all the information I will get when I get to BMT. I can only call one person (Zeke) and he will post everything family/friends need to know somewhere to be determined. Maybe my Facebook, maybe his, I don’t know yet.
I came up with a pretty exciting idea so that I can share my experiences with my family, friends, and those preparing for BMT. I am not able to blog while in BMT but I can most certainly write in a journal. Right now I have a red journal with a heart on the front…. I am seriously contemplating getting a more “plain” one as to not attract too much attention to it. I am about 99% sure I am allowed to write in a journal during allotted “free time.” The same time we are allowed to write letters, read the bible, make our bed, fold our clothes, etc. Once in tech school or maybe even not until I return to Alaska I will scan the pages and post them on my blog and call them the “Boot Camp Diaries.” Neat idea huh? I hope I can make it work. I also do not want to post them all at once either, I want to spread it out, make it interesting and exciting.
I was talking with my husband the other night and asked him if he thought the military changed him. He told me he doesn’t think so. The reason I asked was because my grandfather, my father, and Zeke all do not think that the military changed them but the people around them say differently. In a way I want to change a little bit like I want to be less shy and be able to hold my own. Be more outgoing and less self conscious. But I am afraid of changing. I do not want to lose myself and the things that shape the person I know I am. Getting closer to this milestone in my life I have realized that going will happen and it is noting to be afraid of and I must embrace it in order to be able to endure the change I am going to experience. Zeke has told me to imagine it as summer camp. I have never been to a summer camp but it is a nice idea to try and think of it that way. It helps tremendously knowing that Zeke has done it and he admits that it was not that bad and he would do it again if it meant that he could be back in the military.
Besides all that I have been finding a little bit of time to read each day. Not as much as before so I have been on the same book for a while now. I am currently reading “The Book of the Dead” by Tom Knox and I like it. I really enjoy reading a good murder mystery but Tom Knox uses history and real locations in his griping stories with crazy twists and turns. It gets my conspiracy theory mind ticking in a fun way, not a crazy way. I am almost finished and I just hit a crazy twist that I never thought would happen and I kind of just sat there for a minute to soak in what I just read. Intense to say the least. The only con I would say that because of the historical and geographical references it makes it a little difficult to picture and understand. If I was reading an actual book and not my Kindle I would have a difficult time getting through it. Since I am able to touch words and a definition or a description pops up I am having an easier time with it. I also read Knox’s other book titled “Marks of Cain” and that was easier to understand and I felt like it was a little faster than this one I am reading now. I think when I am finished with this one I want to move on to “The Genesis Secret” also by Tom Knox. I enjoyed “The Da Vinci Code” because of the interesting references to the bible and the twists from it and “The Lost Symbol” also by Dan Brown that twisted historical and biblical references with a little bit of cult religion mixed in. “The Genesis Secret” sounds like a book with biblical twists that I might enjoy. Hopefully I will get to finish it before I leave. Sad I can’t take my kindle with me L

September seems so far away...

Time is ticking down and every day I am getting more and more nervous about BMT and tech school! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! There I feel better.
So last entry I briefly mentioned how September totally sucked well I think I have avoided that story long enough and I think I am strong enough to be able to write about it. If you are someone I regularly talk to you probably already know what this is about.
I have wanted to move to Alaska all my life but in the most recent years before actually making the move I knew I had to get here soon. The reason being is that I knew my grandparents have not been doing well and not to be morbid but I had a feeling it was only going to be a matter of time. My grandfather whom I have called papa since I could say papa was not obeying doctor’s orders to stop smoking and drinking and I only figured it was because he is a stubborn man who was not afraid of dying. In speaking with my grandmother before and since I have moved here he has become just angry and grumpy and mean to her. We all (as in family) figured it was his way of disconnecting so that we would not feel sad when he finally left us. We all should have know it was coming but earlier this year he went in to his doctor to get his pacemaker battery replaced. Well that seemed to fix it. He seemed faster, stronger, and almost in a better mood. Shortly after “the surge” ended and on September 4th, 2012 around one in the afternoon I received a call from my Aunt and I just could not believe what she was telling me. All she could get out was that grandpa had died and she was so distressed that my Uncle had to take over the phone call and tell me what happened. I have experienced loss only once before but it was when I was young and did not understand what to feel or the sorrow of others around me. But when I got this phone call my whole body was shaking and by the time I got off the phone I could not speak let alone hold back my raging tears. I walked to my husband who thank goodness works in the same building, and tried so hard to tell him what happened. Understanding, he walked me to our truck and told me to stay there and call my father. I could not get a hold of him so I called my mother so that she could relay the information. Shortly my husband returned to the truck with my things and said that he had told my boss and his that we would be out for a few days because we had a death in the family. We drove to our home and gathered some things to drive 3 hours to my grandparent’s property. We met up with my Aunt and Uncle at their house to help them and set out. When we arrived papa’s body was already taken and my grandmother was in tears. She told us her story. She came home in the afternoon to find him slumped in his chair and thought he was sleeping. When she went to get him up to go to the bed where he would be more comfortable he was cold to the touch and was not responding. She immediately called 911 and was able to get him down to the floor to administer CPR. Unfortunately it did not do anything and she was so distraught when the EMTs arrived that at first she would not let them take him. Everything after hearing the story seemed like a blur. I remember my father getting to the property, going to the funeral home to see my grandfather, driving back to Anchorage, picking up my mother and siblings, going to the memorial, then finally the funeral. Anything between these events were all jumbled.
I miss him greatly and always will. It is still very difficult to deal with the reality of not being able to talk to him or see him again. It is hard to imagine not seeing someone you expected to be there all the time.
A very sad blog post but in a way I feel relieved. I am normally a person who is open about my emotions but for the first time I did not want to show my sadness I felt and still feel. This is my way of dealing with the loss and hey it is a new day and age where this is acceptable.
Thank you all for the support and care I received during this very difficult time.

Yayyyyy Book Reviews!!!!

Last time I updated my blog (a month ago…explanation later) I said I was reading Crossover by Joel Shepherd and although it was full of a lot of interesting ideas I feel like I could not wrap my head around the authors futuristic world. I am not saying it lacked a depiction of the world and the characters in it I simply believe that Joel’s ideas were so sci-fi and he used a lot of scientific language that made it difficult to picture what he meant. Because of this I was less interested in reading the book, especially when there were so many others I was interested in getting to. I got far enough to understand that the main character is a bioengineered super soldier that is the “test product” if you will, separates from her other counterparts that did not possess a human like will. The idea was to give these robot soldiers free thinking minds so that they would be able to asses various situations without the help of a human pilot or controller. Cassandra (the main character) backfires against her creators and “runs away” to try and live a normal life like a regular human being. She is hunted for her amazing scientific worth and I got as far as the rebellion getting a hold of her and is putting her on trial to decide if she is even capable to live a normal life or if she is better off to be “decommissioned” and taken apart for scientific study and to keep her from the hands of “The Federation” which is possibly the government in this world.
I do not think I can fairly rate this book since I did not finish it. So I left a description for the set up of the book without revealing any spoilers so that either later I can finish or if someone has happened to finish this book and can tell me if it is worth trying again.
I also read Fifty Shades of Grey and honestly this book has enough hype for me to skip my review besides maybe a few remarks that I just have to point out that I hadn’t heard from the raves all over the internet and social media. I feel like the main character needed more self confidence, even when she had the desire of this very handsome, young, rich man right in front of her for the WHOLE book she still had the same pitiful lack of self confidence from the first page……. WTF. Also I am somewhat disappointed in that I feel like there was no set up for the second book whatsoever! Many might disagree with me but I personally don’t see any kind of interesting storyline that could come from the way the author ended this book. Therefore I am that much LESS interested in reading the next book. There, I feel better. I would rate this book with a C. I liked the heart pounding porn-like scenes, made me feel dirty reading it but what the heck. And I already noted the reasons that I didn’t like it.
Now for the two books that I have read over the past month or so that I really did like. First I read Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo and I have to say I was a little skeptical when I read a synopsis and didn’t really understand what kind of story it was but right away in reading it I was pulled in. Throughout the entire story I was encased in the story and it seemed like often I was surprised and twisted in my views of each character. Well worth my time and I give this book an A for creativity, character development, and story twists/ unpredictability.
I also read my first James Patterson book Private Games. I had downloaded a free preview of the first 16 chapters and I just had to purchase the whole e-book. That says a lot because I am always looking for free books and I now have at least 30 if not more books on my Kindle that I have found for free. I am now a big fan of murder mystery and I am now looking for the next edge of my seat, screaming at my Kindle telling the main character to “get out while you can!”, OMG speechless moments, kind of book. This book was set around the 2012 Olympic London Games and the games are targeted by a serial killer who calls himself Coronus after the Greek god who devours his children. He is targeting whoever has “disgraced” the Olympics and shows his disgust for the modern Olympics versus the ancient Olympic games. It is up to Private detective Peter Knight to find this killer before he kills his next victim in front of the whole world. I loved Patterson’s writing and I am now a big fan and understand why he is always on the top sellers list. I think instead of following this series, my next James Patterson book will be one I keep seeing everywhere on the top sellers this week. It will be either “I, Michael Bennett” or “Zoo.” All in all, since this book had me turning pages like crazy and I actually felt a rush when reading it when the anticipation of what would happen next got to me, I would have to give this book an A+.
I am currently reading The Hangman’s Daughter by Oliver Potzsch which is a translated version of a German book interestingly enough. It is about a little village that is troubled when a small boy is found stabbed to death and a witches mark found on his back. It is set in medieval times when witches are believed to exist and when the villagers seethe witches mark on the small boy they break down the door to the villages midwife who is accused of witchcraft. This book follows the hangman of the village who believes that the midwife is innocent and therefore investigates the murder of the small boy and later other children in order to avoid burning the midwife at the stake. This book was slow going at first but I like the how the author took the view of the hangman instead of any other villager. I have not heard of many books like this one and I also have not heard of anything about the life of a hangman and what his position in the village is like. I am currently a little half way through the book and it is getting so close to finding out who is the real murderer and if he will be caught in time before the midwife and others are burned as witches.

I plan to post again shortly on the events of September, a lot happened that will change my life forever. Some things need to be said because I cannot keep these things locked away like I have. Some will understand and others will not. I was one of those who didn’t get it before last month.

Mini Pot Pies! Whaaattt!

I recently finished Graceling and I have to say it was an easy read that I should have finished within a week but it was not gripping enough to me to keep my attention most days. I do think it was a great book just not amazing. I enjoyed the plot and the bad ass heroine type that I enjoyed in Divergent and Hunger Games. It did take me a while to get all the characters, family ties, and kingdoms down since it seemed they were all introduced and explained in the first few chapters. It was a lot to handle. It is a good read but I would not put it on the top of the list if there are others out there that you have more of a desire to read. This is one for a boring, rainy, have nothing else to do, type of day.

I am currently reading Crossover by Joel Shephard which reminds me of a Jason Borne type of plot line. And again, I cannot help myself but to pick the books with the bad ass heroine. I did not read much about this book before picking it up all I remember is seeing it in a magazines recommended reading list. It was slow starting off and trying to understand who the main character is and why she acts the way she does. Now into the third chapter or so it has picked up and I am starting to understand more about the girl who has several different aliases and I am now learning that she is a super soldier robot built by the government. She is a prototype given cognitive thought and therefore has decided that she no longer wants to be a killing machine. This is a sci-fi book and I thought nothing of it until I ran into a lot of scientific terms and ideas I had to read over a few times to understand what the author is saying. I am not far enough into it to say that it is worth the time and effort but I don’t like not finishing the book without knowing how it will end.

I do have Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on hold at the library. Every copy was checked out and I thought the hype from the movie would cause a longer wait list and I did not expect it so quickly. I am tempted to try and read both novels at the same time but that might be confusing.

I am now officially an airman (that’s so sexist, I wish I could say airwoman…) in the Air National Guard and I just had my first drill weekend. My excuse for not blogging sooner since I have been working the past two weeks straight. On Saturday I reported to the gym at 0745 and started with the “modified” pt test. After a warm up and stretches we started with one minute push-ups. I did 20 J, 18 is the requirement to pass the BMT pt test. Then one minute sit ups. I did 37, one from the 38 requirement to pass BMT pt test. Technically I passed the AF pt test because the standards are different from the BMT test. The test was modified because they only had us run one mile instead of the 1.5 miles required for the AF pt test. I did well and at my pace I would have passed the 1.5 mile to AF standards but not BMT standards. I know I need work but I am proud of my endurance. The last time I could run a mile without walking was ninth grade so yay me! After our test we did a team building exercise where we were split into teams and our task was to build a launcher and a catcher out of the given supplies to launch and catch erasers effectively. My team did fairly well and worked together to almost win the challenge. After this we did a 30 minute workout consisting of running laps, squats, sit ups, push ups, and jumping jacks. I liked this type of workout because it was challenging to keep going and pushing myself but I was able to go at my own pace and not at some incredibly fit officer pace. We ended at 1045 and were told to shower and change and be ready by 1100! I had to choose drying my hair over doing my make-up, I guess I will have to get used to quick, cold showers… We then drove to the chow hall for lunch until 1145 because we had to be across base for briefings at 1200. I then sat in a newcomers briefing until 1600. What a long day.. So this is how my Saturdays will be like on drill weekends. On Sunday I was to be at my unit but I was unsure of what time to be there. I know they open at 0800 so I figured the earlier I am, the better. I showed up at 0715 which was smart because I got to meet everyone and attend the morning briefing by the first sergeant and the unit commander. I was awestruck when the officers intermingled with the enlisted. I was expecting a type of segregation. I also noticed how kind everyone is and how they are all like one big family and was very quick to include me as one of their own. The new airmen fresh out of tech school were eager to share their basic stories and tips and tricks for basic and tech school.  They also included me in everything and offered me to sit in on their daily duties. When it was lunch time, and before I even knew it was time to go to lunch, they asked if I wanted to tag along to the chow hall. I learned a lot and this was the first time I was absolutely sure of my choice and I am so excited for every drill weekend. The normal drill day at the Med Group starts at 0730 with a briefing then we all get ready to open at 0800. Then we can have several duties ranging from taking vitals, taking blood, conducting eye tests, giving shots, etc. We do this until 1200 and then break for lunch until 1300. Then for the rest of the day we train. When I was there they played a jeopardy game consisting of study material from their CDCs. I love that they are given an opportunity to study at work. I think it is smart and since we are only there once a month it is important to train, learn, and prepare to grow and excel.

Here is a few awesome recipes I have tried over the weekend.

Breakfast Pumpkin Muffins

This is a weightwatchers’ diet I found on Pinterest. Only two ingredients and twenty minutes in the oven! Whhaaattt!

All you need is a box of yellow cake mix and a can of pumpkin. I accidently bought the pumpkin pie can but it worked out great anyway. Mix the two together and fill up muffin cups ½ to ¾ full and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Zeke ate these babies up! They taste just like pumpkin pie J

I also found an amazing mini chicken pot pie recipe on Pinterest. Its quick and you can change it up and create all kinds of fillings to work with this idea.

Bottom step 1, middle step 2, top step 3
First I boiled some chicken breasts and when they were finished I cut them up and put it into a bowl with mixed frozen veggies. What I should have done then was create a gravy to mix in with the chicken and veggies but it didn’t mention anything like that online and I didn’t think about how dry they would be until after they were cooked. Anyway I then mixed the bisquick or pancake mix and put about a tablespoon in each muffin tin. Then I topped it with the mixture until the tin is just about full. Try not to over fill it, I did and it got messy when I went to add the rest of the pancake mix. I top the mixture with another tablespoon of pancake mix then put it in the oven at 350for 25 minutes. Once they were finished I noticed they were dry and so I heated up some chicken broth and added some pancake mix to create gravy and topped the mini pie with that gravy. Yummmm! And I have plenty of leftovers for lunch tomorrow! Bonus!
Done! Just have to add gravy

Outlander Final Review and Next Read

So I have finally finished Outlander and right away I would give it a B-. I wanted to rate it in this way because I was an interesting read and a great idea but it did have quite a lot of slow parts to it making it difficult to get through. It seemed to make up for most of the slow part with periods of intense heart pounding pages and at some points I wanted to scream or even cry. I do not want to spoil the book and so I will not tell you anything about the story beyond what I have already in my previous post except that the ending seemed appropriate and left the reader guessing just a little bit. I do recommend this book to those who are looking for an interesting read but this is a book that can be put on the back burner if there is something better that you have been waiting to get your hands on. If you like unexpected twists and romantic triangles I think you will like Outlander.
My next read is Graceling by Kristin Cashore. I have already purchased it on my android Kindle app and I started it over the weekend. Cari has already finished this one and has also posted a review on her blog at. Check it out. Going off her review I already agree with her in that getting the imagery of the characters in my head is difficult because Cashore describes so many at once. It is also hard to imagine family lines when she explains them. I feel that she is quick and I have trouble following but other than that I like it so far. I have not gone far enough to get some background on the main character and I am hoping the book will get to that. It seems like a very different writing style and it takes some getting used to. This is also a quick read for someone who is looking for something to last them a week or two, but sometimes that makes it seem over too quick. I felt that way with Hunger Games and I had to search for something else to feed my “reading withdraws.”

Mmmmm Chicken with Blueberry BBQ Sauce

I found these two recipes that I like a lot! I have tried them both twice and they are going to be forever added to my cookbook. The grilled chicken with blueberry bbq sauce is something special and unique and I have made it part of my weekly/bi-weekly menu. I have always loved the white queso at my favorite Mexican restaurant and now I found the recipe and I can wow guest or just make it for myself. I found the chicken recipe in a Women’s Fitness magazine and the queso on Pinterest.com.  If you try them out let me know what you think!
Chicken Thighs with Blueberry Sauce
Prep time: 10minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients:
2 cups blueberries
1 tbsp plus 1 tsp rice vinegar (I used white)
3 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp dark brown sugar
2 tsp molasses
1/8 tsp allspice
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
Nonstick cooking spray
2 pounds bone-in chicken thighs, skin removed
½ tsp salt
1/8 tsp black pepper

1.       To make the barbecue sauce: Combine blueberries, vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, allspice and cayenne pepper in a medium saucepan and bring to boil over medium heat. Simmer, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes, or until sauce is thick. Set aside, reserving ½ cup sauce.
2.       Meanwhile, coat the grill rack with cooking spray; heat the grill to medium.
3.       Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper. Place on grill bone side up and cook 15 minutes; turn and cook 10 minutes more. Brush with reserved sauce and cook until an instant read thermometer inserted into center of largest thigh registers 170 degrees. Serve with remaining sauce.

Queso Blanco

Makes: About 2 cups

Ingredients:
1 tbsp olive oil
¼ cup white onion, finely diced
1 large jalapeno, seeds and stem removed; finely diced
12 oz white American cheese, shredded
4oz Monterrey Jack cheese, shredded (don’t use pre-shredded)
½ to 1 cup cream, half-and-half, or whole milk
1-2 roma tomatoes, seeds removed and diced
1 small bunch cilantro, roughly chopped (I didn’t know what “bunch” meant and I accidently added too much, I would say 1/8 cup is plenty)

Heat the oil in a sauté pan over medium heat. Sauté the onion and pepper until softened and reduce heat to medium-low. Stir in the shredded cheese and ¼ cup of the cream. Quickly stir until the cheese is melted. Add the tomatoes, cilantro, and additional cream a little at a time until you reach desired consistency. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, tortillas, or on tacos, burritos, etc.

Book Club Update: Outlander

So I am just about half way into Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and I have to say that it is a very different read from Hunger Games and Divergent. Which makes sense when I have switched from books written for young adults to an adult novel. The print is smaller and the chapters are longer making this book harder to get through and it is not something I can read within a few days or a week. This one is also slow to start and if you are an antsy reader I would not recommend it because it takes some patience to get to the “good parts.” The Outlander does not have me on the edge of my seat but I am excited to read it and I do enjoy that it is an unpredictable read.
Cari did not like how slow it was so she started Graceling by Kirstin Cashore and she told me that she is enjoying it.
This is my little synopsis of Outlander so far:
A married English nurse is living in the Highlands of Scotland when she and her husband spy on “witches” who gather at sunrise at an odd stone circle onto a hill. After witnessing the bizarre dancing the woman goes back to look for a flower she spotted while spying on the ceremony of the witches and is pulled back in time through one of the mysterious stones and falls right into the middle of a small battle between clansmen and English soldiers. She is then kidnapped by these clansmen and is suspected as an English spy and is held. She struggles to figure out how she can make it back to the stone circle and hopefully return to her own time but is conflicted with an unexpected love interest confuses everything.
I do not want to give too much away but I would recommend this book. Not amazing but not terrible either. It is a nice casual read.

Blogging Book Club

I love books and what is better than cuddling in your favorite blanket or lounging in the summer sun with a great book? I also love reading books that have or will become movies because I like to see my favorite books played out on the big screen and how accurate I think the movie is in relation to the book. A lot of my recommended reads and those on my list to read books like this. Either I saw the movie and found out it was based on a novel or I saw a trailer or I heard gossip about an upcoming move. Funny enough in the case of “The Host” and “The Hunger Games” I just picked them up at the book store and read them before I knew they were going to become movies. I also get some ideas from suggested readings in magazines, radio, shows, Pinterest, or other book clubs. I am open to any and all suggestions so comment and if anyone has read a good book please let me know!
My recommendations are books that I have read recently that I really enjoyed. I have also included a little description of what the book is about and why I liked it.
Recommended:
Hunger games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
If you haven’t heard the hype (you’re living under a rock) this is an amazing series full of suspense and I liked this trilogy because I could not put them down. It is about a futuristic society with a tyrannical government and a suppressed and controlled society. Every year one male and one female (children) are chosen from each district to participate in a televised event called the Hunger Games. The children are put into an arena to fight to the death as an example of the power of the government. Will a young girl start an uprising after being sent to the Hunger Games?
Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth
Another book about a futuristic society set in Chicago where the people are separated into “factions” where they are expected to live a certain and different way in each. If you like a bad ass heroine like in the Hunger Games you will like this book. Unfortunately the third book is not due to be released until fall of next year and the second book leaves you at such a thrilling cliff-hanger I am dying in wait. This trilogy follows a teen who has reached the age at which she will choose her faction and thus choose her fate. In doing so she discovers something in herself that is different from everyone else and must keep it this secret in the face of certain death but this simple task becomes difficult as she is finding it difficult to suppress her uniqueness from others around her.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy by Steig Larsson
I have never really been into murder mystery novels but I picked up this one before there was talk of a movie because I kept seeing it on the bestsellers shelf everywhere I went. I am so glad I picked it up and found a new love for this genre of books. I could not put this book down and with all my guesses of how the mystery would be solved I was surprised and the conclusion left me with chills. It follows a journalist and a very eccentric woman who is a hacker and private investigator of sorts in which the journalist is contracted to solve a 40 year old mystery that one very wealthy man cannot give up. Soon the girl with the dragon tattoo is also contracted to assist in the case that sends chills up your spine at every new discovery as they get closer and closer to finding the truth along the way uncovering deadly secrets about the wealthy family that has employed the main characters.
The Host by Stephanie Meyer
This Sci-Fi fantasy thriller is a look into the after math of an alien invasion of earth in which the invading alien race has won and has started to settle the planet. These aliens are not able to live without a host body and thus use humans to walk the earth. This story follows one alien as it takes over one woman but cannot suppress her spirit completely. This alien’s job is to seek out the hidden human rebels but in doing so has to fight the limitations of the human body it possesses. Will the woman inside break through and sway the alien to do what is right? This is another book I could not put down and I cannot wait for the movie to release. I also hope that Meyer writes up a sequel to this book since the ending leaves it so open.
The Uglies Series by Scott Westerfeld
If you like The Hunger Games and Divergent you will like this series. It plays with the same idea of a futuristic society different than our own where a young teen discovers more than they should and get themselves into trouble. In this society children grow up “ugly” until they reach a certain age and are surgically modified to be “pretty” and are moved to the city and enjoy a life of carelessness and parties. Their whole life is influenced by those around them and what the most “popular pretties” are doing. I like this set because I thought it is scary to think how close our society is to this fantasy in that we look to celebrities to see what to wear or what to do. We surgically modify our bodies to look what media has taught us is “pretty.”
So Far From the Bamboo Grove by Yoko Karvashima Watkins
This book is very different from the other books on my recommended list. It has been years since I have last read it but this book had such an impact that I will always remember it. I will try and summarize the best I can from memory. It follows a girl and her family as they have to leave their home at the beginning of the Vietnam War (I think). They must travel from their village to safety in a city at times dressing up like male soldiers so they are not killed and meeting other refugees along the way. The book switches from the girls story to her brothers in the city and how they are desperately trying to find each other. I do remember that the ending made me cry and I do plan to read it again for a third time.

My Reading List: I will not include descriptions of the books I want to read only because it will take far too long. Also as I read and blog I plan to update my list since I am sure I will come across more good books and suggestions.
Battle Royale by Koushun Takami
I wanted to read this book because it plays on the same concept as The Hunger Games does.

Girl Who Played with Fire and Girl who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest by Stieg Larsson
I have read the first book as noted above and have not finished the trilogy because I was interested in other books at the time.

Crossover Trilogy by Joel Shepherd
I have this written down and I do not remember why but I know I wrote it down for a reason.

Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi
I loved the movie Goodfellas and because I loved it so much I have to read the book that inspired it.

War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
Again loved the movie and the idea. I know alien invasion is cheesy and overused but I kinda like it.

Devil’s Playground by Jenna Black
Another one I wrote down but don’t know why.

Fear of Flying by Erica Jong
Another one I wrote down but don’t know why. But will find out.

Fallen Trilogy by Lauren Kate
A lot of hype and I keep seeing this everywhere. These are tale tale signs of a good book.

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown
I read the Davinci Code and I enjoyed the movies. I love a little conspiracy theory/history/fantasy book. I also like the book The Marks of Cain by Tom Knox (turns out he has other interesting books I want to include to my reading list) which uses a similar plot using the bible and historic events to solve a mystery about a biblical curse. It has been a while since I have read this book and I do not remember details but I do recommend it.

The Lost Goddess by Tom Knox
The “Lost Goddess” is a modern day tale of Frankenstein and is called the book of the dead in the UK

The Genesis Secret by Tom Knox
Weaves together historical cults and bible puzzles

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahane Smith
Now a movie, this book uses historical event to tell an “untold” fantasy story of the secret life of one of America’s most famous presidents.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
An entertaining movie and I have heard good things about the book. Not on the top of my list but I am interested.
Blood Red Road by Moira Yound
Found on pinterest. Sounds like Hunger Games .

Matched by Ally Condic
Like Divergent and Hunger Games where civilians lives are determined by the government right down to marriage.

Red Riding Quartet (1974) by David Peace
About police corruption, sounded interesting, this is a trilogy

Atonement by Ian McEwan
A girl aspiring to become a writer is forced to run away into the forest where she writes about her adventures.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Now a movie I believe this follows African American house slaves. I hear nothing but good things about it.

The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald
I am only adding his because I saw a trailer for a movie that looked very interesting.

I wanted to do this because I enjoy reading and recently my best friend Cari Shoemaker and I have been reading the same books and I had no idea how much more fun it can be with a friend! She and I will be reading together and we thought it would be fun to blog about our reading adventures. She also has a list of interesting books she wants to read:

The Giver by Lois Lowry
I have read this a while ago and it’s a great book I would like to read again.

Graceling by Kirstin Cashore
The cover looks interesting. I have not looked into what it is about yet.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
I keep seeing this everywhere and I do believe it is a series.

Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon
Cari told me it is about a nurse who accidently goes back in time to Scotland. Did a little research and turns out to be a series where each book can be read independently and has some of the same characters but not necessarily need to be read in a specific order.

I was going to include cover pictures but that was before this blog post got super long. I have changed my mind since.

I am planning on taking a trip to my local library to see what is available but I will update with our next read if anyone would like to join in. I will also be blogging about each book and give recommendations. I like this idea because I do enjoy re-reading my favorite books and I can easily go over my past recommendations and be reminded about what I enjoyed. Also I know those who read my blog may have some good reads on their mind and I hope they will share them with meJ.

UPDATE: Cari and I plan to start Outlander. I have gotten through half the first chapter so far and I do like it but seems like it could be slow going. MaybeI will post more updates as we get through this one.

New Chapter: Air Guard Update!

So I passed MEPS and it was not as bad as I thought it would be but still different to say the least.
I was told by my recruiter to be there no later than 5:50am, so I left early just in case and got there at 5:30am. No one was there yet so I waited. I was not dressed up but I was also did not look like a hoodlum. It is surprising what some people wear. The kid who arrived after me wore baggy shorts….the paperwork you have to sign before going to MEPS clearly states that you cannot war shorts to MEPS. The mean part of me wished that he would have been sent home. He was allowed to use the clothes that the Air Force Liaison had in his office. Lucky break. When people who worked in the building started showing up I happened to see a person I know. He happens to work part time at the same dealership I work at so he saw that I was waiting and told me to give him my paperwork so he could get started. Just so happened he is the Air Force Liaison. Once inside we were told to go straight to our branches office and get our paperwork and name tags. I was polite and said “thank you sir” when I received my name tag and my coworker said to me “are you out of your mind? You don’t have to call me sir.” When another kid heard this he said “O cool, this isn’t so bad” so then the Liaison turned to him and said “I don’t know you! You still have to call me sir!” I couldn’t help but smirk.
Next we are sent to a conference room for the briefing on what the day has in store for us all. And to fill out more paperwork. The first brief was over the behavior and conduct that is expected of us that day. The next briefing was much longer and was 100% medical. All the medical paperwork we did with our recruiter was pretty much thrown out the window and everything had to be redone. I consider myself a very healthy person and have not had many issues medical wise in the past. I did have to write down some things but nothing as major as the top disqualifying medical conditions. Once this was all done we were all sent down to medical where we take a variety of tests. Our eyes and ears were tested, our blood and urine was taken for testing, and we had a medical interview where our answers in our paper were clarified and the doctor wrote her own notes and I had to sign stating everything was correct and true. After all of this was done the men and women were separated and we were to do flexibility type exercises so the doctor could check to make sure all our joints were working. Finally one by one we were brought in for a physical, much like a sports physical you get when in school. I have heard horror stories but it was not bad at all. After this my doctor clarifies with more questions, most repetitive to make sure, and we sign the paperwork again. Then she shook my hand and said I guess this means you are in the Air Force, congrats you passed. What a relief!
This was all in a 6 hour day. O and we were given free lunch and it was not bad.
Now my next step in the process is picking a job. My interests lie in medical and I told my recruiter that is what I want. So my recruiter set up an appointment for me to go talk to the medical group on base. I visited the medical group mid afternoon Tuesday and met the chief and the first thing she says to me is that she has never had a person turn down a med tech job once she has talked to them and given them the tour. Here are the highlights of that afternoon:
·         In the entire medical group there are only 50 people including civilians which means a tightly knit group where everyone knows everyone and it is like a family.
·         During drill weekend my job as a medical tech ranges anywhere from organizing and completing medical records to taking blood and giving shots. The medical group works outside the hospital and is in charge of making sure our airmen are up to date on all test and shots so they are fit for duty. Here are some interesting examples of what can happen:
o   When a squadron is slotted to deploy I and other med techs will visit them and take blood and give necessary shots so that they can deploy.
o   Certain jobs hold high standards which means that pilots for example will visit the med group for sight and hearing tests.
o   When we are not taking blood, giving tests, or giving shots we are training.
·         During the tour I got to see the bathroom that is very new and has showers and lockers! Perfect if I want to visit the gym. I also saw the break room and was told that on drill weekend I will not have to worry about bringing sack lunch or spending money on take out because they have bbqs and cookouts. That is cool!
·         Since I will be going to school as well and my goal is to get my RN once I do receive it I will have close ties with the commander who has the power to get me into the main hospital as a full time civilian nurse while I wait for a commission nurse slot.
·         Also, because the position I am interested in is so desirable there are no slots available which means the chief has to double slot me with someone already there. How is this possible? Well either I or that other person has to be leaving in two years or sign a form saying if there is not another slot open in two years, he/she will get their 5 level and become an SME.
o   I would be that person signing for an SME if the chief cannot find a more permanent slot. Well what does SME mean? It is the most exciting job available without being deployable into a warzone. SME stands for Squadron Medical Element which means that I am assigned to a squadron as their medical tech and being so I am in charge of making sure they are giving the medical they need. Sometimes this means prescribing medications or exams and if it gets heavier than that I am to make sure they get the proper medical attention. I am also deployable but only if I choose to. Being Air Guard I can choose not to deploy because of school, my civilian job, or family. But I do have first choice if the deployment is somewhere awesome for a few weeks like Australia, Guam, Germany, or Puerto Rico! These small deployments can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months and are rarely any longer than 6 months. I talked to a previous SME on Tuesday and she was an SME for 3 years and her longest deployment was 5 months.
·         Air Guard means being a weekend warrior. I work one week a month and two weeks out of the year. Next year if I am in by then the medical group is going to Hawaii for their two weeks! What really caught my attention about the two weeks active was that the medical group goes on humanitarian missions. This means that they will travel to underprivileged communities and give medical care to those who could not afford it or do not normally have access to it.
·         The medical group is diverse and I will receive experience in not only basic nurse duties but dental assisting and optometry. The medical group has exam rooms, a dental room, and an optometry office. Pretty awesome! What I love most about this job is the experience I will not get anywhere else and that I can take with me anywhere I go in the medical field.

With all that being said I was a little nervous before Tuesday but I am nothing but excited now. I want this badly and for the first time I feel like I am sure about something I want to do. Up until now I have just gone with my available experience for jobs and gone to school when I can. I finally feel successful and I haven’t even started! The road will be tough, I know that, but nothing that is worth it in life is easy.

Tea, books, and the military

When I add up how much time I spend at work, time I spend sleeping, and compare this to the “free time” I should have, on paper it looks like I have a life. Why do I feel like I am always going? Not that I don’t like it, I love being busy and I cannot stand doing nothing. I have a lot that I want to do and goals I want to reach but sometimes I just have to find the right approach.
I hate the word diet and society has mixed this word with scam, failure, impossible, difficult and so when trying any kind of “diet” there is already a sense of lost hope. Not very motivating I know. Instead of a “diet” I want to eat healthier and better for myself. To me this means making better choices like picking low-fat or fat free options, sugar free, whole grain, etc. This seems a lot easier than a strict “diet.” I have been receiving Fitness magazines in the mail since October of last year and really haven’t looked through them at all. I sat down last weekend and went through each issue circling ideas and ear-marking workout routines and recipes. I found a lot of yummy looking recipes that I want to try. I also learned in this Fitness magazine that you shouldn’t use protein powder in your smoothies or anything unless you are like training for the Olympics! Instead use peanut butter, interesting!
I try to do some kind of exercise every day even if it is 20mins of strength training my philosophy is “something is better than nothing!” My job takes a lot out o me and when I get home all I want to do is lounge on the couch and watch “Raising Hope” or “Dexter” but when I feel this way all I need to do to is to tell myself that running only takes 15mins or the p90x ab workout is under 20mins. I know if I want to get buff or skinny or whatever I need to do more but I am not unhappy with my body, there is just areas I want to work on and when I have more time or when I am up to it I will do longer workouts. Once it becomes difficult or almost impossible is when I fall off the wagon so to me there is nothing wrong with baby steps.
I love tea, especially during my special week or when I am sick. It is great for you and there are some interesting and tasty teas out there. I am a sucker for sweet tea and normally the sweet tea I get is super packed with sugar so I need to find a way around that one…. My favorite is oolong loose tea. I bought a lot of this tea while living in New York from a Chinese grocery store. I just don’t have a strainer for the loose tea when it is done. I like oolong tea because I enjoy the taste and sometimes I do not have to add sugar or any other sweetener. There are two places that I would like to visit to pick up some teas. One such place is called New Sagaya Market which has a lot of fresh and organic foods and a whole wall full of loose teas!! I will have to pick of a can or two and try them out. Another store I found is actually completely dedicated to tea. It is located in the 5th avenue mall here in anchorage and it is called Teavanna. They have samples for you to try if you visit and while I was there I tried a peach tea, normally I am not a fan of peach but this was yummy! They also have these tea balls that when submerged in hot water they unravel and bloom into a flower! I just need a clear glass tea pot. This set up would be perfect for when guest are over.
Air Guard Update! I know I have been back and forth on this life changing decision and most of the time I would have kept something like this to myself until it is definite. It is not something I want to jump into either and that is why I have been taking my time. A few weeks ago I was not feeling the support at all and sort of fell out of it to try and see if scholarships or grants were possible for school. Unfortunately my circumstances are not ideal for a lot of scholarships and after giving this much thought and speaking with Zeke over the idea I have weighed that the benefits are worth the costs and I have the full and overwhelming support of my husband which gave me the push I needed all along to go to MEPS. I go this Tuesday which will be a long day starting at 4am to get ready and into town by 5:30am. I am really not supposed to be there until 5:50am but I am not taking any chances with how far I have to drive into town. I am incredibly nervous to say the least and I pray it all goes well. After MEPS I get to decide on my job. I want to look at all my options as well as do my research and speak to those on the job. I am considering the relevancy to my desired field: medical, as well as how much this job may deploy. These are the top two things I am looking for. Again…So nervous! But extremely excited!
Just rounding up the last book of the Hunger Games trilogy and I have to say so far they have all been exciting. My favorite is the second book but I am not finished yet. I have heard bad things about the third and at this point in the book anything could happen and every time I turn the page I am surprised. I have a list of books to read next: Kill Switch, Battle Royale, Wiseguy, Girl who Played with Fire, Fallen series, Divergent trilogy. I may start with the Girl who Played with Fire since I have read and seen the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I enjoyed it. I never liked murder mystery but I think I may be getting into it.

Laugh of the Day: Youtube search “the Lonely Island: Great Day”

O yeah I almost forgot. Thanks to carishoemaker.blogspot.com (my bestie) I am now journaling. Like my blogs I do not write in it often but I am getting the hang of it and like in Cari’s blog there is so much you can write in a journal that you cannot put on a public blog. Makes things so personal and maybe someday my children can read them and be horrified ;p.

MAY!!!

Ok so to those who have done the HCG diet and have succeeded I say kudos, congrats because this diet is difficult to maintain. I made it to my fifth day and decided that it was not worth the lack of energy that I was dealing with. I was taking vitamins and following the diet exactly but I think there are many factors that I did not think about going into this diet. First I walk around a lot at work which means I do burn some calories and on this 500 calorie diet I think I was burning too many and that is why I was so tired to the point that after the work day all I wanted to do was sleep. Second, in my opinion this program is for people with a lot of fat to loose and because this diet requires that you do not have breakfast it practically kills your metabolism. I do have to say that I love getting anything from GNC because I was able to return the HCG and get a full refund. I am still taking the women’s multivitamin that I bought from GNC because I like it and I have more energy and I feel more awake during the day when I take it.
I am still aiming for a healthier lifestyle so on Monday I took the dog on a walk and used an app on my phone called JogTracker. JogTracker uses my phones GPS and maps to get my location and accurately map out my route and give me the distance that I am going. It also gives me time and if I have my headphones in with music playing this app keeps me updated every few minutes of my distance and my time. Better than trying to check my phone while running! So when I took this walk I used the app to plan my route I will be taking. Also since I have not been active since I tried p90x at the beginning of the year I think that a brisk walk may warm up my muscles. I found the right route which was 1.2 miles and walked it again with the dog Tuesday and Wednesday. Yesterday I decided to take the leap of faith and do a light jog to see how I would do. For not remembering the last time I ran a mile I think I did well, and I did better than I thought I would do. 13 minutes for that mile is not great but I am happy with myself in that I pushed to finish and did not let myself walk at all during the run.
On the diet aspect of healthy living I have decided not to follow some crazy diet and just try to make healthier choices and to try and avoid fast food and sugary drinks. I have also picked out low fat or fat free choices when grocery shopping. I also follow @TaralynnsTweets who gives great healthy living advice. I found her blog on Pinterest and I find it amazing. Take a look: http://undressedskeleton.tumblr.com/. I am super busy in the morning and I am also not a morning gal so making time to get ready AND eat breakfast does not always work out and this leads to not eating breakfast which is a big no no! So I came up with a genius idea to premix oatmeal in a sandwich bag to take to work and since we have a coffee machine that I can get hot water from it works out! I took ½ cup 1 minute oatmeal, 1 tsp brown sugar, dash of salt, desired amount of raisins and craisins. I put all this in a sandwich bag and all I had to take to work was a disposable paper bowl and a plastic spoon.
On the weekend I like to make up pancakes on my little flat grill and I throw some mixed frozen fruit on the grill with the pancakes and this makes for a wholesome breakfast and I did put some syrup on the cakes but I wish I hadn’t since the juices from the fruit were enough I didn’t even need the syrup. Another quick breakfast idea for on the go is a nice smoothie. I used the frozen fruit and mix it in my Ninja with milk, orange juice, and protein mix. I use the protein mix for energy and to fill me up a little more than the smoothie alone would.
A sort of update on the military side of things: My uncle Rob (he is the greatest) got in touch with an air guard recruiter who funny enough happens to work part time as a salesman at the dealership I work. He was telling me of an amazing opportunity to get into the air guard as a commissioned officer which I did not think I was possible without a degree. Turns out that this is possible for only certain fields which are religion, medical, and legal. The only catch that I had found through research so far is that I must get my degree before gaining the rank of O-3 or Captain.  The job is also located in Fairbanks which I thought would be difficult because I would have to travel, good news about that is that the air guard will put me on a plane to and from Fairbanks on drill weekends and the air guard will pay for my hotel and food on the weekend that I have to go. Sounds compelling. My recruiter does not yet know if this job is still available but I really hope so. He is on leave now so I have to be patient but I am positive.
The spring semester is finally coming to a close and I have all my finals this weekend and some end of the semester project due. Which means I will be locked away this weekend. L Good news is that I will be free for the summer after this weekend! So excited!

All this bad food in my house!! AHHHHH!!!!

I hate grocery shopping... period. I feel I do not have self control to say no to deliciously bad foods like Totinos pizzas, bacon, and cookie dough ice cream. I think Dieting is the most difficult thing I have ever done. Zeke is not really all in for a "diet" and so I told him at the grocery store to get what he wants but only enough for him because I wont be eating it. Of course he picks out all the very yummy, fattening, bad for you foods that I cannot have, and what I cannot have I want most of all.

I have tried a very, very low fat diet while doing the P90x workout but with low fat and low calories I did not have the energy to complete the workouts. I think if I would have stuck with it I would have liked the results and I think if anyone is hard core enough the P90x workout is awesome and I hope to try it again only when I find the right diet to combine with it. I am currently trying the HGC diet because I keep hearing these "miracle stories" about it, including a co-worker who lost 25lbs in two weeks! I know I'm not "fat" but I am not in shape, skinny, or where I want to be. I currently weigh the more than I ever have in my life and this is discouraging to my self-esteem. I am only on day 5 of the HCG diet and it is the most difficult thing I have ever done. I think without the daily vitamins I am taking I would not get past day 3.

Here is what the HCG diet is all about:
Phase 1(2 days): Gorging phase- while taking HCG before lunch and before dinner (so 2x daily) eat EVERYTHING! Sounds crazy but this is supposed to build fat. But I already have fat, is this not why I am doing this in the first place? Well you need calories and fat to burn so that way it is not a shock to your body going into phase 2.

Phase 2 (no more than 3 weeks, stop at desired weight): 500 calories a day-
Breakfast- tea, coffee, water, mineral water. No sugar except for Stevia. Only one tablespoon of milk allowed in 24hrs.
Lunch- 100 grams of chicken breast, grass fed beef, shrimp, white fish, lobster, or crab. All visible meat to be removed. Weighed raw. 1 Melba toast. 2 cups vegetables spinach, chicory, beet greens, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, cabbage ONLY. 1 apple, orange, or handful of strawberries. Melba toast or apple can be snacks instead of with the meal.
Dinner- same as lunch, advised different meat and veggie.

Light exercise to no exercise. This is a very low calorie diet and the HCG is used to trick your brain to use fat stored in your body to gain extra calories for daily activities instead of muscle. Do Not exceed 3 weeks. When desired weight is reached or 3 weeks have passed slowly add more calories to diet, first 1,000 then 1,500, then 2,000. If more weight loss is desired take 3 week break than start diet again.

This is intense! And again I am only on day 5, or day 3 of 500 calories. When I purchased HCG at GNC I was advised to purchase a daily multivitamin because of the lack of energy and essential vitamins and nutrients from the diet. I purchased a months supply of multivitamin packs that consist of 7 different pills including a caffeine pill. Besides this pack I take everyday I include vitamin D because although the winter is almost done in Alaska we were without sun for a few months and therefore it is not uncommon to not get enough vitamin D. This alone can give me some energy, unless I am active at work, which I am. My job is a somewhat outside job and I walk a lot. when burning 1/4 at least of my daily calorie intake you can imagine how tired I feel. It is not the meals, its not hunger, it is the lack of energy that is getting to me. In fact I do not get hungry at all on this diet! Sometimes I feel full by the time I eat half my veggies. I also have, just in case, appetite control but I have not had to use them. This is a tough diet and I have already told myself that if I do not see results by the end of week one I will try something else. I have, as of last night, lost 3 pounds. My goal is to reach my desired weight then start a higher calorie diet and start an exercise routine to tone and get back into shape. I am not looking to loose a ton of weight and I know I will probably gain it back in muscle and that is what I want.

I have already done some digging on my next diet and I have found the blog to use. http://undressedskeleton.tumblr.com/. There are so many healthy, low fat recipes on this blog that look so delicious I think this one will be easier to maintain. I also hope to get Zeke into the diet as well. My current motivation is a lean body, healthy lifestyle, and increase energy.

I know I do not blog a lot and since I started spring classes it has been increasingly difficult to blog. I do believe however, that I have a new blogging adventure in searching and sharing healthy living tips and recipes. I want to be able to look back at this blog and see what I have accomplished and use it as motivation to continue.

I eat a lot out of boredom and that is how you gain weight so my first tip:

Eat with your non-dominant hand only! This odd motion will stop bored eating.
OR
Do something that requires both hands or gets you moving when you find yourself looking for an unhealthy snack. Like household chores, crafts, walking the dog, reorganize the closet, yard work, etc.

Water is your friend, first step to healthier living is to eliminate sugary drinks!

Explanation for Facebook Status

This is the worst week for sleep that I have ever had! It is only Tuesday! Sunday evening Zeke decides to stay up in the bed and look at craigslist on the laptop. Normally this would not bother me except he was using the clicker thing instead of double tapping the pad… I just drifted into sleep and started to dream when my dream is interrupted by an occasional “click……click….click, click.” Too bad I am too nice all I said was “honey, we have to work early in the morning.” Nope. He couldn’t sleep so he had to keep me up with him! He is so lucky that I have just been too much of a zombie to be angry.
Last night was even worse! Apparently I have had this huge cavity that hasn’t bothered me at all until last night. The dentist was amazed last month that I had not said anything about it and told me I had to come in ASAP to get it fixed or it would really bother me. I guess he was right…duh. Listen to your dentist. Anyway, last night felt like a tiny person was inside my mouth stabbing the inside of my tooth with a knife, over, and over again. I tried everything. First I flossed like crazy, then I brushed my teeth and rinsed with mouth wash three times and nothing seemed to work. From what I could see using my makeup mirror I did not have anything jammed up inside of the cavity. When my alarm went off I just hit snooze and Zeke was trying to get me up and was saying I was going to be late. I told him that I did not care and I only wanted to lie in bed since I could not sleep. I also told him why I was up all night and he said “weird, I had a dream about pulling teeth..” He does not remember whose tooth it was but I also think this was weird and I blame him for my tooth pain, in a loving way of course.
